Motherbird

Motherbird is an emerging multi-disciplinary communication design studio with a passion for branding, typography, photography and print-based media. They are a Melbourne based team of young creatives; Chris Murphy, Dan Evans and Jack Mussett- who are focused on strong design principals and aesthetic values. The dynamic studio environment they are now creating is a result of the notion of allowing ‘experimentation’ to be introduced into the design process. In combination with this experimental attitude, the collaborative approach with a client always yields innovative, lateral design outcomes.

Letterbox

Established in 1991, Letterbox undertakes typographic projects. Some of these are commissioned by clients (identity systems, signage systems, external publishing and font customisation) whilst others are initiated by the studio (such as lectures, publications, forums and exhibitions).

Collaboration and experimentation are key to our creative process. We pursue a sophisticated process of extensive research coupled with intense design development that allows us to develop truly distinctive ideas. Our designers are worldly, skeptical, inquisitive people with an exceptional eye for detail. Regardless of their training or the countries they come from, they have to wear many hats: designer, editor, curator, art director and craftsperson. They understand design as an experiential process; part intuition and part chance. Each is able to think beyond themselves and has the mental and emotional breadth to find inspiration from a whole range of influences and the maturity to accept that the solution might lie beyond the core competencies of the collective studio. We push ourselves to look for solutions outside of conventional disciplines, sometimes bringing into the mix practitioners who normally wouldn't be regarded as having a place in design: where, for example, the exploration of contemporary art practice might bring a whole new dimension to a fashion campaign, or some other unexpected dimension to re-orient our interpretation of a subject. We aspire to transcend established modes and genres, creating the kinds of outcomes that go beyond one's own intuition and comfort zone. This opens up new possibilities and perspectives for our own work - and ultimately must benefit our clients by satisfying their objectives - and at the same time bring a heightened sensuality into the equation. We believe fundamentally that all design is about problem solving. But it's also about provoking consciousness, stimulating an aesthetic response and creating a sense of personal engagement.

Founded in 1999 by Bruce Slorach and Sophie Tatlow, Deuce Design is a graphic design and branding studio specialising in interdisciplinary projects. It has a reputation for producing both contemporary and culturally significant work, from boutique branding to large-scale public domain. Working across virtually all graphic media - print, Web, signage, identity, exhibition, textiles, wallpaper and environmental design - Deuce’s approach emphasises great design and originality. Collaborations play a large part in the studio’s creative process with strong relationships formed with architects, interior designers and landscape architects.

Studio Round is a Melbourne based design company. Our approach encompasses identities, print, the web, art direction and the built environment. We build partnerships with our clients to understand their communication challenges. We apply our creative thinking and understanding of design to develop thought-provoking solutions to address commercial needs. During the course of the project we spend time meticulously crafting the detail while keeping an eye on the bigger picture. The Foundry

Foundry is a graphic design studio working across commercial, cultural, and independent practice. Founded by Jessie Fairweather upon her return to Australia from reknowned studios Fabrica (Italy), and Studio Dumbar (Holland), a distinctive european influence is evident in our attention to detail, imagination, love of form, and sense of humour. Our work has been recognised both at home and abroad, and awarded by the Type Director’s Club of New York, Young Guns International Advertising Awards, and the Australian Graphic Design Association. We are currently making the transition from design studio to design production company with our first international product range: Measure.
